The Plague (french La Peste) was published in 1947.  The basic ideea behind this book (classified as a novel) is : when the sh*t hits the fan peoples rediscover each others. This novel was inspired from Oran’s  cholera epidemic (1849).

From Wikipedia :

Although Camus’s approach in the novel is severe, his narrator marks the ideas that , in the end, we have no control, (i)rrationality of life is inevitable, and he further shows the human reaction towards the ‘absurd’. The Plague represents how the world deals with the philosophical concept of the Absurd, a theory which Camus himself helped to define.
